The Individual Buroughs Of The NYC Traffic Report

By Iva Cannon

The city of New York is divided into five boroughs, each of which also forms a county of a different name. The five boroughs are the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and Brooklyn. No matter what time of day, looking at the NYC traffic report will show congestion where three of the boroughs intersect in the center of the city: Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan.

The Big Apple is the gateway through which newcomers to the east must pass to become legal immigrants to the USA. Everybody knows about New York; it is an A++ global power city, which means it is universally considered to play an important role in the global economy. The only other A++ city is London, England.

Of all five boroughs, Brooklyn is the most populous with 2.6 million people. It is the second largest in terms of geographical area, Queens is the biggest. It shares the same boundaries as Kings County. Brooklyn is connected to the Borough of Manhattan by the Brooklyn Bridge, which was completed in 1883. Brooklyn has been an entity in New York for more than 350 years.

The largest square mileage (109) of all the boroughs is occupied by Queens, which holds the largest population of souls, numbered at around 2.3 million. Famous people who lived in Queens include Geraldine Ferraro, the first woman to run for the vice presidency of the United States, Josephine Esther Mentzer (Corona)(aka Estee Lauder) and the notorious Bernie Madoff, disgraced stock broker and mastermind of one of the largest-ever Ponzi schemes.

The island of Manhattan, in New York County, wins the prize for being the most densely populated of the five boroughs, with 1.6 million people stuffed into a land area of 23 square miles. Outside the city and also part of the same island as Manhattan are White Plains and New Rochelle. Central Park is situated in Manhattan. Central Park has appeared in numerous films and on several television shows, but it is probably best known for Friends, which ran for ten series.

North and slightly east of Manhattan, and sharing the same island, lies the borough of The Bronx. It is the only one of the five boroughs of New York that contains the definite article in its name. The Bronx has a population of around 1.4 million. This borough is the home of Yankee Stadium. The Bronx is located in Bronx county.

The Bronx cheer is a sound like blowing raspberries and is believed to have first uttered by fans of the New York Yankees. Numerous song titles mention the Bronx, specifically, Cousin in the Bronx, by the Kaiser Chiefs; Alfie from the Bronx by the Toy Dolls; and Bronx Bombers by Grandmaster Flash.

Staten Island is the southernmost of the boroughs. The population here is just under half a million. Among the attractions located here are the Staten Island Ferry, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and Snug Harbor Cultural Center. Staten Island has been immortalized in films like the Godfather, Goodfellas, Big Daddy and Analyze This.
