Medical wastes may be described as wastes materials coming from the health care facility such as clinics, hospitals, blood banks and medical research institutions. These wastes are infectious hence need to be disposed of in a proper manner. This article looks at the steps involved in medical waste disposal Florida.

These wastes are normally infectious to human beings hence they must be disposed in a proper manner. Example of the medical wastes includes the following. Removed body organs, glassware, discarded syringes and needles, surgical gloves and discarded lancets.

The first step is segregation and containerization. At this stage all the wastes are separated in to various categories. This step takes place at the point where the wastes are produced. This stage is important since it prevents the wastes from reacting with each other. This stage is also important since they are disposed using different means. After the segregation, the wastes should be placed in a proper wastes bag or container. The wastes bags and the containers should also be marked for easy identification.

There should be a place where the wastes are stored shortly before being transported to the central place. This is normally referred to as intermediate store. This allows for the daily collection of the wastes from the places where they are generated to the intermediate storage. The wastes should not stay at this place for a longer period. These should just act as a collection center where they are collected for a shorter period of time.

The other step is where the wastes are transported internally within the medical care facility. For instance the transportation from where they are produced to where they are stored. It is always advisable that the transportation is conducted using trolleys which are meant for the transportation.

The central place where the wastes are stored should be able to accommodate the volume of wastes generated in the particular health care facility and the frequency at which they are disposed of. The storage should in a place which is far from food store and kitchens. The access of the store should only be accessed by individuals who are authorized to access it and the ones who have undergone through a special treating on handling of the wastes. The central storage place should also have proper ventilation in place and should also be easy to clean.

The next step is the external transportation of the wastes from the internal store to the place where they will be disposed. Specialized vehicles are the ones which should be used in the transportation and the vehicles should not be used for any other purpose other than transportation of the waste. The vehicles should also be easy to load and off load and they should not have sharp edges as well. This is because the sharp edges may destroy the bags as well and lad to cross termination.

During the transportation to the place where they are going to be thrown away, those handling them must also ensure that they do it in a proper manner. The vehicle used should be a special one specially meant for that purpose. The edges must as well be smooth and proper bags must be used for the disposal as well. These are stages involved in Medical Waste Disposal Florida.
