Deducing Like Sherlock Holmes

By Darrel Jefferson

So you are looking at changing the way you think and becoming the new genius around. Here are ten ways to get you there faster than ever!

Without being to verbose, it may be as simple as meditating and taking the time out of your busy schedule to think about what has been going on around you.

It applies in every aspect of our lives. So here are some ways to improve our deductive reasoning. First- Don't be gullible! Now this seems obvious be Sherlock is famous for not falling into traps that other fall into. While superstitions surround him he keeps his cool and realizes that there is a reasonable explanation for most everything. This helps him take control of his emotions as most people make impulsive decisions out of fear, doubt, or anger.

There are hundreds of tacit things that surround us on a daily bases and if we don't open our senses to them then they will remain obscurities.

Ninety nine percent of the time that is a definite and resounding no. Observing requires more than just your eyes it requires all of your senses and it requires your intuition and knowledge especially.

Fifth-Change the way you do things in order to stimulate your brain and get yourself out of your comfort zone. If you normally read the same literature or blogs, have the same routine, or just don't get out much then you need to change. Trying new things stimulates the brain more than anything.

So rather than creating larger-than-life problems it is important to break them down, piece by piece, until we can determine what the problem really is. In calculus we call it factoring and it is a very efficient way of taking things apart to save time and effort. Dr. Watson is consistently surprised at the simplicity of Holmes deductive pathways.

Seventh-Travel to new places. There is no better way to get your mind blown then to visit a culture where they have a completely different way of thinking and doing things. This helps create new thinking waves and can inspire you to new intellectual heights.

Other distraction may be the noise we allow in our lives. Whether it is load music to "give us a break" or just loud environments we live in, they can really take away from our ability to analyze and think properly.

Sixth-Talk through things with a trusted cohort. By talking things out you are able to dissect and understand things more fully.

By placing emphasis on our observational skills we will gain a new appreciation for what is around us and we will find much more purpose in life. It will prompt us to ask meaningful questions that can really promote change in the world which is really what we should all be doing.
