Discover The Story Behind The Black History Magnets

Behind every little thing that came to be is an inspiring story. It may look simple, ordinary and even cliche the first time but when you realize the meaning behind it, you will know how important it is for certain individuals. Like the magnets that has pictures of every known African American person, if you look closer and search the internet harder, you would know that these simple magnets are a representation of the contribution that they have done to America.

Black History month, as the Americans call it, is the culmination of every thing that the colored race has contributed to the world. It serves as a recognition of all they had offered and the black history magnets are their symbols. African American History month as it was later called was an event that the people could celebrate the African American personalities who made an impact on their lives and the important events in the past that serves a milestone to the freedom they are experiencing today.

Black History Month started out as the Negro History Week and was founded by Carter Woodson and Jesse Moorland. Woodson was a historian from Harvard University while Moorland was a minister. The weekly celebrated started 100 years after the end of the slavery. February was the month for event because it correlates with the birthday of Frederick Douglass and former President Abraham Lincoln.

In the 1960s the event that was only celebrated for a week became an event celebrated for the whole month. And it was when President Ford declared the culmination officially that whole of America know what the other race has done for the good of every citizen. Since then, each leader of the country that followed Ford also continued to recognize this event.

From this single event, many organizations were born. These organizations are responsible for the advancement of the development of their individuality and their lifestyle in general. One known organization is the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People or the NAACP.

During the times when slavery was still at large, many Negros suffered. The country also suffered because of it. When people were treated as slaves and were traded and sold easily, they were dark times indeed. But from the struggles came some of the most brilliant minds and greatest leaders there ever were. Some of them contributed a lot to our music and our arts. And some would remain in the pages of history books because of what they did.

Every year since 1976, presidents of the US gives a proclamation every February of the year in celebration of the African American History Month. They encourage communities and schools to observe proper activities. There are even schools who that dedicate programs and lessons to in accordance to this affair.

The impact of this great race has influenced not only United States but the world as well. Most of them have inspired us with their stories and words and some have touch other the souls of other people through their music. Which is why it is only fitting that they be given the credit for everything that they have done.

The magnets and the other memorabilia sold during this time of year are not just simple items. It represents the struggle of the Negro people in their fight for freedom and equality. Once you know the story behind a small thing, you would be able to see its value.
