A Short History Of Bullfighting

The entire history of bullfighting in Spain started during the ancient times. Still, the exact start of bullfighting is indeed difficult to distinguish although there were plenty of proofs about the various rituals that would involve the bulls of the past culture around the year 1500 BC. For the last one thousand years, this was already considered as a sport.

This has been a centennial tradition and national sport of the rich country of Spain. Nowadays, a bullfight is an activity that is not approved by many activists that is why it became less popular. However, even if the glory of the sport has been fading slowly, it continues to represent a huge part of the Spanish tradition.

This was even called corridas by some people. There are several huge Spanish cities that could provide a great arena for all these events that would be easier for anyone to book for it. But, with its elegance and glamour, this could also be so dangerous or violent. It has indeed fascinated different travelers or inspired plenty of people.

There were many proofs that were seen in the Spanish nation that proven this specific sport originated in their tradition and culture. During the ancient times, bulls were referred to as an object worthy of worship so numerous historians thought it was part of their religious practices. Additionally, there are people who are thinking that such animal is definitely sacred.

During the Roman times, animals that were allowed to fight in an arena is definitely common. There are some special facilities that are built intended for some Roman cities as well. Just like some other countries in the Mediterranean, Spain has been conquered by the Romans, which is probably the reason that this certain game has been introduced.

This also became so popular during the 18th century. A person named Francesco Romero is referred to as founder of bullfighting. He was definitely innovative or creative that he had developed his very own styles. He also added several elements of drama such as the red capes that already became a historic symbol of bullfighting.

It managed to stay as a controversial practice today. There are various animal rights associations that have been considering this to be bloody and cruel. They even started numerous protests and campaigns that want to ban this bullfight event. With this, they were really successful that many Spanish regions banned this.

However, this activity still remains to be so popular in some cities and regions of Spain. There are many places that can be visited by the people who are interested in knowing more about this particular sport. La Maestranza is a place in the country where the oldest arena for this activity is situated.

The history of bullfighting in Spain has been very colorful for all the citizens of the country. They remember this as a great symbol of their past since it has left them a wonderful experience. This even creates an identity for them that no other event can surpass. Because of this, they continue to attract many people into their place due to the popularity and fame that this has earned.
