Facts About Why A Generator Propane Conversion Is A Good Idea

A redundant supply for power is not an item that just hospitals and other large municipalities need. Seeing the growing trend for natural disasters to happen more often, everyone is more and more troubled about their power supply. This is why more people are planning ahead and doing a generator propane conversion on their back up generators.

It is critical to have some form of back up supply for your family in case anything happens. Gas has a very short shelf life, and may not be available in times of need. Natural gas lines may break or be shut off by the government because of ruptures. Propane is by far one of the most readily available fuels you can choose to depend on in your time of need.

Gas prices generally fluctuate wildly during a natural disaster or in emergency situations. The gas that cost you 4 dollars per gallon a few weeks earlier can get to as much as 16 or 20 dollars, as like after hurricane Katrina ravaged the east coast. There is also the prospect that any local stockpiles will run low leaving you unable to buy it at all.

Generally propane can easily be stored for an indefinite amount of time. This will not mean a year, or a month, or a week. This means that as long as your top valve is not rusted up 5, 10, or 15 years later your liquid propane will be as good as when you first bought it at around 2 dollars a pound in the store. Different size tanks can also be combined together or connected individually as the need for them arises.

During the summer most big brand hardware stores have sales on the #40 LP tanks for grills. Their average price is around 25 dollars apiece. These can be stacked and stored in an out of the way place until they are needed. For greater piece of mind and a slightly larger cost a #100 will hold 25 pounds of LP for use during emergencies.

A pound of propane gas will typically last most small generators for 16 to around 18 hours, the biggest factor being how many RPM's the engine is running. Even if someone used a smaller tank for a only few hours each it ran, the entire run time could be stretch into weeks or even months. This gives you enough time to acquire more tanks, or have the old tanks refilled.

The typical conversions will run around 150 dollars in a basic kit form. They often can be found online with all the things you need except for some basic hand tools you will use to put it together. A typical kit can be completed in a weekend with plenty of time left to have a few drinks and tell tall tales with your buddies in the garage.

When you use a generator propane conversion you leave many worries behind. LP is a gas, so even in temperatures of 40 below zero it will start. You can not flood them, and your engines will always run better. What better plan can you have in case something happens, to protect yourself and those you love.
