The creation of Joint Technical Committee on Information Technology (JTC1) which gathered the material competence held by the CIS and the software expertise held by ISOS. JTC is the producer of most of Informatics on standards. ISOS is divided into about 200 technical committees (TC), each responsible for a particular area (ISO 9001 consulting services). In 1990s, under pressure from the rapid development of information technology, ISOS relaxed the standards development process, taking into account the activity of consortia, which we considered that it was not a threat against the official standardization system.

It is a federation of non-governmental standards organizations of fifteen countries, mostly European, with the participation of AESC for the United States and Japan. The French Association for Standardization (AFNOR), founded in 1926, plays a very active role. The ISA and shall, on French proposal, the first international standard on normal numbers.
Hull is also concerned with the creation of common requirements for auditors for accreditation of testing laboratories and Performance Evaluation of accreditation bodies; mutual recognition of certificates of conformity of products and systems. DEVCO (DEVCO - Committee on developing country matters) examines requests from developing countries in field of standardization and develop recommendations to promote these countries in this field.
At present, the ISOS includes 165 countries their national standardization organizations. Russia is the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology as a committee. In total, more than 100 ISOS member bodies. In addition of member's membership in ISOS may have the status of corresponding members, which are the standards organizations in developing countries.
Agreements have been made with the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) to create a kind of pact of "non-aggression" between the two competing entities and avoid redundant standards. ISOS cooperates with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), responsible for standardization of electrical equipment. The most important concrete evidence of this cooperation was in mid-1980s.
