Economy The Northern Arapaho Tribe Take Pride In

By Tammie Caldwell

Most of the time, human population still have to be divided into ethnicity and tribes. Even with the first-world countries, there are still examples of such divisions. That should be okay because people who belong to certain ethnicity and tribes can be uniquely differentiated from the others. They have their own distinction.

You have a number of tribes and ethnicity you should be familiar with then. These tribes and ethnicity vary according to factors like history or geography. A popular one would be the Northern Arapaho tribe. They are usually called the Hiinono'ei, a term which can then be translated as the wrongrooters, cloud people, or our people.

When it comes to the territory they are living in, the wrongrooters once extended theirs from the Big Horn Mountain to Arkansas River from the north to the South and from the Black Hills to Rocky Mountains from ease to west. However, the ones in Wyoming now only have settlements covering Ethete, Arapahoe, and St. Stephens.

The economy of these people is actually enough to promote their survivals. If you want to have a better understanding of these people, then they have to understand how the livelihood of these people work. There are several elements for that. Here are the important elements that these people have in their economy.

First, you can count on the subsistence of the Hiinono'ei. From the fact that they are nomadic hunters to trading off their goods and rations to settlements and military ports, you an say that these people are maintaining themselves at the minimum level. They scavenge to meet their needs in nature but do not go over what is needed for them to survive.

Industrial arts can also be a pride of the wrongrooters. They create things that are necessary in making their work more efficient. Whether it be for the men or the women of their people, they make arts that are useful to work. One example they always take pride is is the bow and arrow created respectively from the osage wood and the dogwood.

These people also delve in trading. Long-distance trading has been made possible these days. They trade the things they have acquired, either through raids or through their current industrial works, with the other settlements or tribes found in their area. Through trading, it helps them get the things they need to survive.

Division of labor should be a good thing as well. This is because every member of the wrongrooters have their work assigned to them. Unmarried woman and married women have different priorities when it comes to their work. The same goes with the unmarried and married men. Even their work can be specifically broken down according to their age.

There is land tenure as well. Te said element in the economy of the wrongrooters can be traced back to the past when they do not have land titles to hold onto. These are just the patent lands that are given as territories to tribes. There are profits to them so the wrongrooters can take advantage of land tenure for their economy.
