The Daunting Disadvantages of Debt Collecting

By Rob Sutter

The debt collecting industry seems to be a hotbed for criticism and it receives more than its fair share. The outside world itself gives this particular industry a lot of negativity and I don't think that it's fair. No business in this line of work is flawless but it seems like most people have this idea that every company deserves the harsh criticism given. Truth be told, many companies are actually quite good but are bogged down by the bad seeds.

Maybe that's the greatest issue about that debt collecting encounters - too many bed seeds exist. It seems like every company like R.R.S. that does ideal work, there's another company that will act as the antithesis of the rule. Essentially, they will go against the rules that the industry at large has been tailored to, whether they directly impact the debtor or not. These are the companies that will sink to any depth if it means the case succeeds.

Not only do collectors have to contend with companies that prove to be less than reputable but they will also have to deal with those who will slander the industry left and right. Many people who read about collectors have only a negative mindset to associate with them and this leads them to actively avoid them altogether. This can go even further, to the point where such collectors won't be hired for any case at all. When people believe in something strongly enough, that same feeling can transcend.

When it comes time to work for a company with these circumstances in place, paychecks being brought home on a constant basis may not happen so easily. Debt collectors generally are compensated based on commission. For those who don't know, a collector is only paid if a client wins. This element of risk is made even more tumultuous when you know that the negative news stories seen all over can result in fewer job opportunities presenting themselves.

For those who work in debt collecting, I feel like a good deal of respect has to go to them. After all, they work under such stressful and risky situations that their own lives are put at risk every single day. They don't know how payments will go in the way of cases and the utmost work has to go into everyone in order to ensure a steady paycheck. For those of you who bash the industry at large, you are more mistaken than you may realize.
