Going to college may intimidate you as much as it excites you. Some people learn more life skills in college than academic information. Living by yourself for the first time and dealing with a full load of classes is not easy, but it is a great learning experience.

Bring a bottle of water to school with you. It is vital that you drink enough water. This is very important if you're going to a lot of classes in a row and aren't able to get a meal in. When you are properly hydrated, it is easier to focus more clearly on your work and remain productive. This is especially important at schools located in warm climates.

Be sure to eat well while in college. The freshman 15 is a real thing. The better you eat, the better your brain will work, too. Fast food, pizza and alcohol can really add to your waistline. It is cheap and quick, but doesn't give you the energy a good meal does.

Spend the maximum amount of time studying every day. The greater your dedication to studying, the more benefits you are sure to reap. Socializing is fine, but you need to devote a certain amount of time to studying each day. You will make more money and get a better job if you do well.

Get used to your schedule and know where to find your classrooms before the first class. You need to find out what free time you have in between classes and how you will get form place to place. ` If you have a map plan your route carefully!

Learn what you can about the career you want before you select your college. You'll be able to choose the right college for your end goal that way. If you are unsure, talk with an admissions counselor.

Instead of selecting classes that are known to be "easy," choose those that are challenging and interesting. There is great satisfaction in pushing your mental limits. You learn more from harder classes and you make more ambitious friends.

Make time each day for studying. College has many distractions, but you can set aside some time. Give yourself a minimum of an hour to study daily. Even if studying is not really needed on a particular day, do it anyway. Habits are easy to form when you put in effort.

You should get in the habit of taking notes during lectures. Writing down what you are listening to can help you to remember it. It will also make studying easier because you will understand it. Regardless of what you think your grasp on the material is, write it down to be sure that you have it straight.

Make sure you learn ways to prevent plagiarism from popping up in your papers. During your college life, you will likely write a lot of papers. Learn how to properly cite your sources to avoid inadvertently plagiarizing them. The individual professors will have several different techniques for checking the originality of a document.

Become familiar with the phone numbers for campus security. This will allow you to quickly call security should you need them. Hopefully that will never be a number you need, but make sure you have it in case you need it.

Don't rely on other people's notes. You might be relying on a student you think is stellar, but you really have no idea if their approach to note-taking is similar to yours. You need to take your own notes and develop your own system to take notes quickly.
