The new curriculum incorporated a 4 -module course for the A-level examination which takes minimum of two years. a vocationally incline Advanced Level General Certificate of Education course is the GCE Applied A-level. Some subjects like Applied Business among others got practical approach teaching added to them to further make it easier for students to understand and to help them view the subject in a real life form.
One key subject that A-level students do that Universities have supported is Critical Thinking, a subject that helps students to reason analytically, and approach issues with a clearly focused aim. Only Singapore, among the countries offering A-level courses placed restriction upon number of subjects units for students. Because of the facts that the subjects studied for A-level is not more than three even at the final level, many people criticized the usefulness of the examination.
Another views of the critics about the A-level examinations and course conducts is that though the curriculum is in 4-module form which is good enough, the subject combination should be balanced in a way that it reflect the various disciple available for study in the University, that is, science, language, creative, vocational, etc, this will make such a student a balanced student too. Students who are currently undergoing the A-level course can apply for a University admission into British Universities and some Scottish schools too even before writing their final examination, they can be considered for the admission based on the final exam result should they pass.
